    Mary
I just LOVE the last paragraph in particular. Or when people go "Oh are you TWITTERING? HAHAHA". Priceless.

Thank you guys. I spent one whole day this weekend on Twitter just watching for the all the stupid stuff and decided, hey, people need to know when they are being TWUCKED UP!

Sadly, the morons have out-bred us. But that's the case with all innovations, until the dust settles and people know how to ask the right questions. (hint: check under their fingernails.)

Let me add - there is a huge difference between those who can maintain an account, those who can create and link integrated campaigns, and those who have the creativity to do things no one else has considered before.

There's also a completely different set of skills involved in coaching - but I am still writing that post, and will publish it soon. ;)

Loved this and TOTALLY agree. Great job Mary - you had me falling off my office chair laughing. By the way, Kelly Olexa sent me to you via Twitter. Your suggestions on creative people to follow are definitely ON.

OH - and follow me at www.twitter.com/shawnacoronado if you like - I'll look forward to having you on board the twitter stream. Maybe I can give you some "green" ideas for your team? Let me know.

    Thanks!

    BRILLIANT ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!~

I hate it when so called gurus quote themselves and tell us "absolutes" regarding interaction and content. Flexibility is the name of the game.

This is just like when the first "Internet gurus" came out of the woodwork 15 years ago. People didn't have a clue and I saw "consultants" getting companies AOL accounts instead of real TCP/IP connections, domains, and robust websites. Like any "product," there will be an adoption curve of Innovators, Early Adopters, Early Majority, Late Majority, and Laggards. The "gurus" usually come on board during the Early Adopters phase and multiply as the Early Majority starts getting curious but remains unsavvy, thus being a ripe opportunity for a quick buck.

Ever be it thus, there have always been half-assed "experts" ripping off half-assed customers. During the fledging pharmaceutical industry, we had "snake oil salesmen." It will happen again when the next "big thing" comes along, so folks, it's up to you to make sure you have a story that is better/faster/cheaper than theirs when you're selling.

Best post I have read in a long time...

    Thank you.

This might actually get some attention if it wasn't so obnoxiously self-serving as many of your points are far too true.
  • william · 1 month ago
Agree 1000% percent with everything you have said here, been saying it for 2 years myself.

I guess your remarks are quite justified, but gee - you are so full of yourself I didn't even make it half way your post. "I'm a real marketer"? " I work with real rockstars and know how hard their jobs really are"??? Yikes. Next time, start with "I'm just a marketer, but..." and people will not run away anymore.

Thanks for all the retweets and great suggestions here and on Twitter to make this post better.

To anyone offended by the fact I am not HUMBLE and seem "full of myself" - I am unapologetic for that. I get people to listen by being shockingly awful. It's my schtick. If you don't like it - don't read it.

To those who think this was self promotional - get a grip - I, personally, do not sell MY services. I turn people down DAILY that want MY services. If you want ME, you need to BE a celebrity, a Fortune 500 or at least in the multi-million dollar brand league. And I don't SELL to small businesses or business to business companies. Please refer to our SERVICES tab at the top where we are CLEAR about what we do and DO NOT do. This post is meant only to be controversial, build a little buzz and tell much of the social media world they don't know their ass from their elbow in marketing and are all circling like sharks over small businesses when it is the enterprise level celebrities, brands and companies that really need their services.
